"Tyler came down with cancer in 2008, and instantly our lives were turned upside down. I honestly don't know what we'd have done if the VCMC's pediatric oncology unit hadn't been here. Tyler's a different kid when he's here and I'm grateful. Dr. Bracho assures me that everything's going to be okay and that's made all the difference."

Welcome to the NCL Juniors of Ventura County Website!

Welcome to the NCL Juniors of Ventura County website where you can learn about our group, our cause and our annual gala. Our Art of Giving event was held on March 26, 2011 at the beautiful Serra Center in Camarillo. If you are interested in attending next year's event, Evening d'Elegance, on March 24, 2012 at The Mullin Museum in Oxnard, becoming a sponsor, or making a donation, please contact us at info@ncljuniorsventura.org. You may also make a secure donation online by following this link: ncldonationonline

The Art of Giving event raised $100,000 for our worthy cause, the Children's Cancer & Blood Diseases Program at Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC), through the silent and live auctions and your generous donations. The vast support of the our sponsors, donors, and community enables us to raise money to bring the much needed medical care to Ventura and its surrounding areas. Ultimately, we are touching many hundreds of lives of cancer patients and their families by enabling treatment close to home. Without your enthusiastic support such an achievement would not be possible.

The existing project between Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) is dedicated to bringing quality care and treatment to Ventura County children who become ill with cancer or blood diseases. It will ensure that these children and their families will not have to make the arduous trek to Los Angeles for treatment. The medical community is watching the success of this program with great interest, as it is the first of its kind. The project partners a hands-on county hospital with an academic hospital that is on the cutting edge of research, in order to train doctors and nurses of two institutions to work seamlessly for the medical needs of our community. The NCL Juniors of Ventura County is committed to raising money to support and enhance the vital program. More specifically, we have financed the construction of a child-friendly infusion room, play room, and resource library for patients and their families. It is also our goal to raise community awareness and participation, and through this year's event we hope that we can unite the efforts of the past with the efforts of the present to bring about further change for the future.

In August of 2007 VCMC was able to recruit Dr. Francisco Bracho from Georgetown University Medical Center to lead the program. Dr. Bracho is a Board Certified Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist with experience in the clinical care of ill children, including clinical trials, and multidisciplinary treatment collaboration. Since the opening of the program in 2007, there have been over 3,000 patient visits. A larger unit in the new building at VCMC opened in October 2010 to meet the growing demand in our community.
